Eovaldi Dominates Early
Nathan Eovaldi was the anchor for the Texas Rangers on Friday, delivering a performance defined by overpowering stuff. He pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out nine batters. His dominance was the primary reason the Rangers stayed in the game despite early deficits. Eovaldi (9-7) secured the win, marking his ninth victory of the season.
The Tigers’ starting pitcher, Framber Valdez, struggled to contain the Rangers' lineup. Valdez (4-6) also pitched five innings but gave up five earned runs on nine hits. He walked two batters and recorded only one strikeout. The Tigers' bullpen could not stem the tide after Valdez’s exit.
Early Scoring and Deficit
The game began with Detroit taking control. In the second inning, the Tigers scored three runs. Díaz launched a home run to left center, followed by a run on a walk by Jung and a sacrifice fly by Duran. Jung extended the lead in the fourth inning with a double that scored Lopez, and Duran added another run with a single. By the top of the fifth, Detroit led 5-0.
The Rangers finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Keith hit a home run to right center. Lee followed with a two-run homer to left center, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Smith added a solo home run to right in the same inning, making it 5-4. However, the Tigers held on for the lead until the seventh inning.
