Von Miller has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, a move aimed at bolstering the team's defense. This signing comes as the Cowboys make significant changes to their roster, including the addition of approximately six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who had nine sacks in 2025 with the Washington Commanders, is expected to leverage his experience in Dallas.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's skills, highlighting his sharp football intellect and impressive speed. Schottenheimer indicated that while Miller might not be on the field for every play, his involvement will positively impact the team's defensive capabilities. "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer stated, noting Miller's understanding of angles and diverse skill set.
In the 2025 season, Miller played in 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and accumulating 420 snaps, which represented 37 percent of the team's defensive plays. In his new role with the Cowboys, he is anticipated to contribute during critical situations, such as third downs.
Miller, who was selected second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M, has had a distinguished career, earning Super Bowl MVP honors and winning two Super Bowl titles. He currently has 138.5 career sacks, the highest among active players, and is tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th on the all-time list, just 3.5 sacks away from entering the top 10.
