The Dallas Cowboys are seeing notable enhancements in their defensive capabilities, as highlighted by star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. He described the team's progress as 'night and day' compared to the last season, crediting the new coaching staff and a demanding training routine for this transformation.

The Cowboys faced challenges in 2025 under former defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, where they ranked last in the NFL for passing yards allowed and points conceded. They also placed 30th for total yards given up and were tied for 22nd in sacks. This contrasts sharply with their performance in previous years under Dan Quinn, who has since joined the Washington Commanders.

With Christian Parker now serving as the defensive coordinator, the Cowboys have adopted a new mindset and strategy. Williams noted that rigorous daily practices against a strong offense have played a crucial role in their defensive growth. He remarked, "It's been amazing — from where we started off in OTAs to where we are at now," while recognizing that improvements are still needed.

In August, the Cowboys extended Williams' contract for three years at $105.9 million, making him one of the league's top-paid interior defensive linemen. Last season, he tallied 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception, and 53 combined tackles over 15 games, receiving high marks from Pro Football Focus.

The Cowboys have strengthened their defense with key signings, including safety Jalen Thompson and cornerback Cobie Durant, along with veteran linebacker Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers. They also added safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Malachi Lawrence in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Dallas will kick off its 2026 regular season away against the New York Giants on September 13.
