WACO, Texas — DJ Lagway, a quarterback who struggled during his tenure at the University of Florida, is starting anew at Baylor University. His time in Gainesville was marked by a tough season, including a game against LSU where he threw five interceptions, leading to significant mental health challenges.

This prompted his mother, Nikita, to come to his aid, finding him emotionally distressed and feeling abandoned.

Nikita offered him reassurance, but Lagway expressed feelings of despair, stating, "I think God forgot about me." After a challenging 2025 season filled with injuries and setbacks, Lagway made the decision to transfer back to Texas, where he has family ties and a connection to Baylor.

In Waco, Lagway is finding a supportive environment. He has reconnected with head coach Dave Aranda, who acknowledged the emotional difficulties Lagway faced. Their candid conversation marked a turning point, allowing Lagway to open up about his frustrations in Gainesville.

He describes his new life in Waco as "slower" and is grateful for the change. As he prepares for the upcoming season, Lagway is set to start with Baylor in a matchup against Auburn, looking to showcase his potential and leave behind the struggles of his past.
