Denton City Facilities Close for Juneteenth Holiday

The City of Denton announced closures for libraries, animal services, and municipal court on Friday, June 19, while maintaining essential public safety and utility operations.

DENTON, TX – In observance of the Juneteenth holiday, the City of Denton will implement facility closures and service adjustments starting Friday, June 19. Regular operations for several departments will pause, with resumption dates varying by service.

Library and Court Closures

All Denton libraries will be closed on Friday, June 19. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, June 20. The Denton Municipal Court will also be closed on Friday, June 19. Online options and automated phone payments remain available 24 hours per day. The court will return to regular hours on Monday, June 22.

Animal Services and Airport Operations

Animal Services and the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed on Friday, June 19. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, June 20. Residents may report animal-related non-emergencies by calling (940) 349-8181. In case of an emergency, residents should call 911.

At the Denton Enterprise Airport, administrative offices will be closed on Friday, June 19. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours a day throughout the holiday season. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.

Parks and Recreation

Several recreation centers, including the Quakertown Civic Center, Denia Recreation Center, MLK Jr. Recreation Center, North Lakes Recreation Center, Denton Senior Center, and American Legion Hall Senior Center, will be closed on Friday, June 19. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, June 20.

The North Lakes Driving Range and the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will remain open during the holiday. The North Lakes Driving Range will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Denton Natatorium, Water Works Park, and Civic Center Pool will also remain open. The Denton Natatorium will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Water Works Park will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the Civic Center Pool will operate from noon to 6 p.m.

Utilities and Public Safety

Public safety personnel will be on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, residents should dial 911.

Customer Service will be closed on Friday, June 19, and will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, June 22. Online self-service options remain available at www.cityofdenton.com/paymybill. To report a utility service emergency, residents should call Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.

Curbside solid waste and recycling collection will remain the same. The City of Denton Landfill and Home Chemical Collection at 1527 S. Mayhill Rd. will be open from 7 a.m. to noon and will return to regular hours on Saturday, June 20.
