As summer vacation concludes, residents in southern Denton County are turning their attention to the start of the new academic term. Several community groups and businesses have organized events to assist families with back-to-school preparations, ranging from free supply giveaways to seasonal sales.
Ms. Karen’s Community Closet in Flower Mound is teaming up with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Just Serve to distribute free backpacks to students in grades kindergarten through 12. The event takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 1100 Stapleton Street in Flower Mound.
Organizers state that registration is not necessary, and each child will receive one backpack filled with school supplies.
Tanger Outlets is also hosting a Back-to-School Bash on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, located near Polo Ralph Lauren, will feature free activities for students and resources for parents. Shoppers can also contribute to the Northwest ISD Education Foundation through a supply donation drive.
Additionally, Tanger is offering discounts of up to 25 percent on brands including Old Navy, Gap, Hey Dude, Vineyard Vines, Skechers, and Crocs.
The tax-free weekend for school supplies runs from Aug. 7 through Aug. 9. During this period, sales tax is waived on clothing and footwear items individually priced at $100 or less. Tanger will continue to accept school supply donations through its Stuff the Bus Donation Drive until Sunday, Aug. 9.
