Denton police arrested a 26-year-old man on Saturday afternoon after he was stopped while driving a vehicle reported as stolen. The arrest was executed on a warrant related to a separate hit-and-run incident that occurred in March.

The theft investigation began when a woman reported her car missing from the 1500 block of Centre Place Drive. The owner informed officers that the vehicle had been taken before but recovered, and she suspected the same individual was responsible for the current theft. She utilized GPS tracking to provide law enforcement with the vehicle's location.

At approximately 2:16 p.m., an officer spotted the stolen vehicle near Teasley Lane and Interstate 35E. The driver noticed police presence and made a quick turn onto Stonegate Drive, followed by Hollyhill Lane. Officers initiated a traffic stop and pulled the vehicle over at Hollyhill Court.

Upon the stop, three passengers—one male and two females—exited the vehicle and ran northward. The driver remained inside. Officers discovered the 26-year-old had an active warrant for a collision involving property damage.

That prior incident took place on March 20 around 3:15 p.m. on North Locust Street. Witnesses at that scene stated the suspect became agitated after the crash and attempted to restart the vehicle until the battery failed. The suspect then contacted others who arrived to pick him up and drive away. Police had previously identified the suspect vehicle as stolen.

Detectives linked the 26-year-old to the March crash and secured the warrant. The reports did not provide additional details regarding the theft investigation.

From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, the Denton Police Department responded to 325 service and officer-initiated calls, resulting in eight arrests.
