Business owner Eric Bowman intends to open a new Velcrokid location at 216 W. Mulberry St. in Denton during the upcoming fall season. The venture aims to introduce a shopping concept inspired by Japanese vending machine and cafe culture, focusing on designer toys and vinyl figurines.

Bowman describes the business as an arts advocacy brand dedicated to making art accessible. The store will specialize in blind boxes and serve as a community gathering space. This approach draws from Bowman's observations of similar establishments during trips to Japan, where he noted the importance of having a place for people to socialize.

The Denton location marks a relocation from Velcrokid’s previous site at 1298 Justin Road in Lewisville. That store closed on May 16 after operating since a soft opening in December 2024. Bowman, a graphic designer and art director who resides in Lewisville, stated that the original location struggled financially.

He viewed the move as an opportunity to find a better fit for the brand within Denton.

Customers from the Lewisville location have expressed support for the expansion. Shiva Alizadeh of Shady Shores described the store as a cool place where staff did not pressure visitors. She appreciated the ability to buy drinks and browse blind boxes without feeling rushed.

Jarred McBride of Providence Village called the former shop a third space, noting that he and his wife fell in love with the environment upon visiting.

While construction continues at the new address, Bowman has hosted pop-up events around Denton since the Lewisville closure. He hopes to build a similar close-knit community of regulars in the new location. The specific opening date for the Denton storefront remains not yet clear.
