Cristian Javier delivered a masterful performance on the mound for the Houston Astros, striking out seven batters over five scoreless innings to earn the victory. He allowed just three hits and walked none, providing a sturdy foundation that kept the Los Angeles Angels off the scoreboard despite their early offensive surge. The win improved Javier’s record to 1-1.
The Angels’ starting pitcher, Walbert Urena, worked six innings and held Houston to one run on two hits while striking out five. He received support from Chase Silseth and Ryan Zeferjahn, who each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the lead. However, Jose Fermin took the loss after allowing a run in his brief appearance, dropping his record to 3-2.
Angels Build Early Lead
Los Angeles jumped out to an early advantage, scoring four runs across the first three innings. In the top of the first, Neto and Trout scored on sacrifice fly and single plays. Grissom extended the lead in the third with a home run to left-center field, followed by Lowe scoring on Adell’s double.
Houston finally broke through in the fourth inning when Trammell hit a solo home run to center field, making it 1-4. The Astros chipped away further in the eighth inning as Alvarez singled and Peña scored to make it 2-4.
