The Houston Texans have signed quarterback Brett Rypien to a contract as of Saturday. This decision follows the placement of Graham Mertz on season-ending injured reserve, which led the Texans to look for additional depth at the quarterback position.
Rypien, who has experience with the Cincinnati Bengals, played in one regular-season game in 2025, where he took three offensive snaps. With his addition, he will act as an emergency option behind starting quarterbacks C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills.
