The Houston Texans are focusing on their offense as they prepare for the upcoming season, with starting quarterback C.J. Stroud drawing considerable attention. However, uncertainty surrounds the wide receiver position, particularly regarding Tank Dell's ability to join the starting lineup.
According to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, Dell is not anticipated to be ready for the first game of the season. He began taking part in practice during the second week of training camp, but his participation has mostly been restricted to individual drills and limited team activities.
Recently, Dell has not been seen practicing in front of the media, which raises additional concerns about his status.
While two league sources have stated that Dell has not faced any setbacks, he has not been able to practice regularly. It seems improbable that he will participate in the Texans' last preseason game, and with three weeks left until the season opener on September 13, his readiness remains uncertain.
This situation may prompt the Texans to keep seven wide receivers on their 53-man roster as they wait for Dell's full recovery.
In addition to Dell's situation, the team is also managing the impact of Jayden Higgins' ACL injury, which has complicated plans for the No. 2 wide receiver role alongside Nico Collins. Players like Xavier Hutchinson, who showed promise last season, and Jaylin Noel, recognized for his playmaking skills, are now vying for that position.
