The Houston Texans have received encouraging updates on wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a serious knee injury. However, general manager Nick Caserio has made it clear that the team is not hurrying his return.
Dell, currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, is set to be sidelined for a minimum of the first four games of the regular season due to a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears he suffered in December 2024.
Caserio mentioned that while Dell is making strides in his recovery, he still needs to regain the top-end speed essential for his playing style. Improvement has been noted in his quickness and route-running, but the Texans are prioritizing his ability to perform at the high speeds necessary for success in the NFL.
Dell's injury had previously kept him out for the entirety of the 2025 season, requiring extensive rehabilitation.
Before his injury, Dell had become a significant asset for quarterback C.J. Stroud, achieving 98 catches for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns across his initial two seasons. His talent for stretching the field and creating opportunities for teammates is something the Texans are eager to restore as they navigate the early part of the season without him.
