The Dallas Cowboys have added veteran offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson to their practice squad as the 2026 NFL season approaches. This signing aims to address the absence of Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith, who is set to start the season on injured reserve.
Tomlinson, selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, has participated in 173 games throughout his career, starting 162 of those contests. His previous teams include the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, and Houston Texans. He played all 17 games for the Seahawks in the 2024 season under head coach Mike Macdonald.
After spending last season with the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, Tomlinson had been without a team since January 2025. His experience will be beneficial for the Cowboys as they gear up for their opening match against the New York Giants.
While it remains uncertain if he will be elevated to the active roster for Week 1, the Cowboys may choose to utilize him on game days due to current practice squad regulations. In the meantime, backup interior lineman T.J. Bass is anticipated to fill in for Smith during his recovery, which is expected to last 4-6 weeks.
Tomlinson's career accolades include a second-team All-Pro designation in 2023 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 while playing for the 49ers. His presence enhances the Cowboys' offensive line as they navigate the initial phase of the season.
