Denton ISD said its new Gold Card program drew more than 500 participants during its first two days, giving eligible community members no-cost entry to district home athletic events and some fine arts programs.
The district announced the early response in a press release. The card is available to community members who are 60 or older, live inside Denton ISD boundaries, or have a family member currently enrolled as a Denton ISD student, according to the district.
"The response has been incredible," said Dr. Susannah O'Bara, Denton ISD Superintendent of Schools. "To see more than 500 community members walk through our doors in the first two days tells us something we've always known. Our community cares deeply about our students and wants to be part of their journey.
We are grateful for their support and can't wait to welcome them into the stands and at our performances this fall."
Cards can be picked up at the Denton ISD Central Office Stephens Building on North Locust Street between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The district said the cards are free, and applicants need to bring a valid photo ID that lists their name, birth date and home address.
