Gold Award Girl Scouts will have a guaranteed path into Texas Woman’s University under an agreement signed Thursday afternoon in Denton by TWU and Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
The partnership provides guaranteed admission to TWU for Gold Award recipients, along with a waived application fee and access to scholarships. It also includes college preparation workshops, a dedicated admissions adviser and eligibility for TWU’s Zero Tuition Guarantee, according to information released about the agreement.
TWU President Carine Feyten and Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas CEO Jennifer Bartkowski signed the agreement at TWU’s Denton campus. Feyten said the Gold Award gives the university a way to see how a student has applied what she has learned, beyond what appears on a transcript.
The Gold Award is the top recognition in Girl Scouts and requires a community service project intended to have a lasting effect. Bartkowski said in the release that TWU’s automatic admission policy for Gold Award recipients recognizes leadership, service and character.
The agreement follows the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas’ State of the Texas Girl report, released in March. The report ranked Texas 41st nationally for girls’ overall well-being, last for physical well-being and below average in academics, and it also described mental health concerns for girls in the state.
