Denton County was listed in an extreme fire danger area Tuesday by Texas A&M Forest Service, with hot and dry conditions expected in the Denton area.
The National Weather Service forecast a high temperature of 102 degrees in Denton. Officials said heat combined with low humidity could allow an outdoor fire to spread rapidly.
The Denton Fire Department urged residents to use caution with activities that could spark a fire, including welding and other hot work, cigarettes, loose chains and outdoor cooking.
Battalion Chief David Boots said Tuesday was not approved by the county for burning. People may not conduct outdoor burns unless county officials are notified.
In unincorporated parts of Denton County, residents must buy a controlled burn permit before open outdoor burning. The Denton County Emergency Services Office can provide permit information at 940-349-2840.
