Luis Murakami anchored the Chicago White Sox offense with a powerful multi-homer performance, driving in multiple runs and setting the tone for a lopsided 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday. The White Sox (55-49) utilized a barrage of long balls to overwhelm Houston’s pitching staff, while the Astros (52-55) struggled to contain the Chicago lineup at Rate Field.
Murakami’s impact was felt early and often. He opened the scoring in the first inning with a 385-foot home run to left field that also brought in Antonacci, giving Chicago a 2-1 lead. His influence continued throughout the game, including a crucial single in the seventh inning that scored two runs and a final home run in the eighth inning to right-center field.
Scoring Breakdown
The White Sox jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the top of the first inning when Peña launched a 393-foot home run to left, followed by Murakami’s two-run shot. The Astros tied the game 2-2 in the third inning when Peña homered again, this time to right-center field.
However, Murakami immediately responded by grounding out to second base, allowing Romo to score and advancing Antonacci to third, restoring Chicago’s 3-2 advantage.
Chicago extended its lead in the fifth inning when Trammell hit a 426-foot home run to center field. The White Sox offense continued to pile on runs in the sixth inning, with Vargas hitting a 393-foot home run to left that scored Antonacci, making it 5-3. The seventh inning proved decisive for the final outcome.
Meidroth hit a 382-foot home run to left-center, followed by Murakami’s RBI single that scored Romo and Perez, and Benintendi’s RBI single that brought Murakami home, pushing the score to 9-3.
