Astros Strike Early
The Houston Astros defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-2 on Thursday, September 3, at Daikin Park in front of a crowd of 24,155. Jose Altuve provided the initial spark for the home side, homering to left field for 353 feet in the first inning. That drive scored Carlos Paredes and gave Houston a 2-0 lead before the visitors had a chance to respond.
The Astros built on that early advantage to control the game’s momentum from the outset.
White Sox Attempt Comeback
Chicago managed to tie the game in the second inning. Mattie Rogers reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring C. Montgomery and moving Peters to second base. Shortly after, Antonacci singled to left field, allowing Peters to score and tying the score at 2-2.
The White Sox showed resilience in the middle innings, but they could not sustain their offensive pressure against the Astros' pitching staff.
Houston Extends Lead
The Astros retook the lead in the third inning with a powerful sequence. Paredes doubled to left field, scoring Wade Jr. and moving Alvarez to third. The damage was compounded when Daulton Varsho tripled to center field, scoring both Alvarez and Paredes.
Walker then singled to center field, bringing home Varsho and extending the lead to 5-2. The final run came on a subsequent play, securing the 6-2 margin. Hunter Brown delivered a strong start for Houston, pitching six innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs.
He struck out seven batters and walked two. Bennett Sousa, Bryan Abreu, and AJ Blubaugh combined for the final three innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs between them. Luis Castillo took the loss for Chicago, enduring four innings of work with six hits, six earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts.
Tyler Schweitzer, Trevor Richards, and Jose Urquidy finished the game for the White Sox.
