Safran Electrical & Power and Aura Aero have announced an expansion of their partnership aimed at accelerating the development, certification, and industrialization of all-electric and hybrid-electric propulsion technologies. The agreement focuses on three primary areas: the serial production of the INTEGRAL E training aircraft, the extension of cooperation to the ERA regional aircraft program, and the exploration of next-generation propulsion architectures.
Safran Electrical & Power, a global leader in aeronautical electrical systems, has supported Aura Aero since the early development stages of the INTEGRAL E. The company is now assisting with the industrialization and ramp-up of this two-seat, 100 percent electric training aircraft. The aircraft’s propulsion system relies on ENGINeUS™ electric motors designed and developed by Safran.
The collaboration also covers the ERA program, a future 19-seat hybrid-electric regional aircraft. This plane will utilize eight ENGINeUS™ electric motors distributed across its wings. Regional aircraft are typically defined as those used for short-haul routes under 1,500 kilometers with a capacity between 36 and approximately 100 passengers.
Beyond these specific programs, the two companies intend to deepen their cooperation in research and technology. They plan to continue exploring propulsion architectures for future generations of aircraft together.
Jérémy Caussade, president and co-founder of Aura Aero, stated that strengthening the partnership is strategic for the company. He noted that the agreement consolidates the technological and industrial roadmap for both the INTEGRAL E and ERA programs.
Caussade added that the integration of VOLTAERO assets provides complementary means to accelerate the maturation of new propulsion architectures, which he said prepares the programs for certification, industrialization, and market entry.
Agnès Pronost-Gilles, general director of the Power division at Safran Electrical & Power, described the agreement as an illustration of Safran’s expertise in electric and hybrid-electric propulsion technologies. She emphasized the company’s ability to transform breakthrough innovations into certifiable industrial solutions.
