The Houston Texans have added defensive end Chris Braswell to their practice squad after his recent release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Braswell, who had a notable college career at Alabama, recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for loss while filling in as the Jack linebacker following Will Anderson Jr.'s departure.
He was drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay but struggled to secure a starting role, managing just two and a half sacks during his two seasons with the team.
Braswell's release came after he faced challenges during the preseason and was outperformed by other players. In Houston, he will reunite with former Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall. The Texans are currently dealing with injuries at the defensive end position, which could lead to Braswell being promoted to the active roster.
Transitioning to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme will require Braswell to adjust his playing style, focusing on edge-setting and improving his pass rush. The Texans view this signing as a strategic enhancement to their defensive depth, with Braswell serving as a backup behind Dominique Robinson, Sebastian Harsh, and Jadeveon Clowney on the team's depth chart.
