The Houston Texans have received encouraging news about offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is likely to be out for a few weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This update follows a concerning moment during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that Smith's injury is a concern but is not deemed severe, suggesting it will not lead to a lengthy absence. Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla mentioned that the Texans will likely need Smith at some point this season.

Smith joined the Texans earlier this year on a two-year deal valued at $20 million, with the intention that he would assume the starting right tackle role. However, his injury contributes to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the offensive line.

ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that Smith may be out for a few weeks, which is better than facing more serious issues. The Texans may not feel pressured to rush Smith back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl tackle, is currently filling the right tackle position, and Blake Fisher has shown promising development during the preseason.

Further updates on Smith's status and the offensive line will be forthcoming as the season nears.
