The Houston Texans have acquired wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots in a trade. In return, the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft to New England.
Boutte, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will continue his career in blue as the Texans aim to reclaim the AFC South title from the Jacksonville Jaguars. This trade was prompted by the season-ending injury of Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19.
Higgins had a strong rookie season, catching 41 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns. With his absence, the Texans are looking to bolster their receiving corps behind Pro Bowler Nico Collins.
During his tenure with the Patriots, Boutte played in 29 games over two seasons, recording over 500 receiving yards each year and contributing significantly with three touchdown catches in 2024 and six in 2025, helping the team secure the AFC title and reach Super Bowl 60.
The trade occurs amid ongoing discussions regarding Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who has faced scrutiny after a difficult playoff performance. Despite this, the Texans remain confident in his potential as their franchise quarterback.
