The Dallas Cowboys have secured two-time Super Bowl champion and eight-time Pro Bowler Von Miller with a one-year contract, aiming to bolster their pass rush. Miller, who leads active players with 136.5 career sacks, tallied 9.0 sacks last season while with Washington.
However, not all experts view the signing favorably. Bryan Broaddus, a former Cowboys scout and current analyst for 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, has voiced significant concerns, describing the acquisition as low-impact and potentially harmful.
He remarked that Miller's recent performance does not align with the expectations of a starting player, suggesting that had he not been a prominent name, he likely would not have been signed based on his latest game footage.
Broaddus criticized Miller for lacking the essential speed and closing skills required of a top-tier edge rusher. He proposed that the Cowboys might benefit more from utilizing James Houston, who is expected to be sidelined in the lineup. Pro Football Focus rated Miller 66th out of 119 edge rushers last season, while Houston was ranked 49th.
In response to the skepticism, Miller highlighted his potential to contribute beyond just playing. During his introductory press conference, he asserted his capability to perform well and mentor younger players, stating, "If there is a Hall of Fame for that, I will be inducted."
