Johnson Development Corp. initiated construction on Cole Ranch, a massive residential project located in southwest Denton. The 3,100-acre site will feature 4,365 single-family homes alongside 1,200 acres of preserved green space. The community is named in honor of Thomas "MT" Cole, who acquired the land in the 1930s and was known for his love of the outdoors.

The master plan includes 156 acres for commercial use, a 55-acre business park, and 206 acres designated for two Denton ISD elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Residents will have access to two amenity centers, a 50-acre city park, and at least 26 miles of trails connecting to Hickory Creek and two existing lakes. One lake spans 32 acres, while the 13-acre lake was originally created by Cole using mules and a Fresno Plow.

Home sales are scheduled to begin in late 2027. Johnson Development is partnering with The Cole Ranch Company, L.P. and Denton Range LLC on this project, which marks the firm's third community in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The development aims to reduce the open space gap between Denton and southern Denton County communities along the I-35W corridor.
