Bezos Academy Denton has opened its doors on the Texas Woman's University campus, marking the launch of the largest Bezos Academy preschool in the state. The facility, located at 1820 Frame St., was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from Texas Woman's University, Bezos Academy, the City of Denton, and the Texas Women's Foundation.

The $6 million project features six classrooms and is designed to serve up to 120 children between the ages of three and five. The school provides full-day, Montessori-inspired instruction at no cost to families, covering education, meals, and educational materials through fully funded scholarships. Students are scheduled to begin their first day of attendance on Sept. 8.

The construction of the preschool was a collaborative effort involving the university, the academy, and the city. The City of Denton contributed $1.5 million toward the total project cost, while the building was erected on university-owned land. Enrollment for the fall 2026 semester is already full, having been determined through a lottery process.

Prospective families can access eligibility information and waitlist details via the academy's website.

Seat allocation is structured to support both the university community and the broader public. Twenty percent of the available spots are reserved for children of Texas Woman's University students, faculty, and staff. The remaining 80 percent are open to families residing in the surrounding area.

The Texas Women's Foundation highlighted the financial burden of child care in the state, noting that annual costs average approximately $11,000. In Dallas County, families spend roughly 12.5% of their median income on these services, an amount the foundation compared to the cost of attending a state college.

With the addition of the Denton location, Bezos Academy will operate a total of 12 schools across Texas this fall. The network includes six schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, five in the greater Houston area, and one in San Antonio.
