Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, of Denton, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for committing three armed bank robberies in the area. U.S. District Judge Richard Schell handed down the sentence on July 4, following Fleming’s guilty plea to bank robbery charges entered on June 29. The sentencing was announced via a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.
Court documents detail that the crimes occurred between November 2022 and February 2023. During each incident, Fleming allegedly drew a firearm while wearing a black ski mask, goggles, gloves, and all-black clothing to conceal his identity. For the first two offenses, he operated a red Dodge Challenger. For the third robbery, he drove a Dodge Ram TRX truck.
Investigators linked the vehicles to Fleming through dealership records. Authorities determined that Fleming had purchased the Dodge Ram in cash and traded in the red Challenger. This financial trail helped establish his identity as the suspect.
On February 23, police obtained a search warrant for Fleming’s apartment after he had been identified. Officers found Fleming inside the unit, which he occupied alone. The search yielded evidence directly tied to the crimes, including the black and gray clothing worn during the robberies, a black duffel bag, a gun belt with a holster, and a large amount of cash still bound in bank currency bands.
Seized firearms included a black Smith and Wesson M&P handgun in a holster, which investigators believe was used in the November 10, 2022, robbery. Police also recovered a new Glock handgun with its receipt and two AR-15 style rifles. Additional items found in the apartment included two police radio scanners and two deposit receipts showing cash deposits ranging from $19,000 to $40,000 into various bank accounts.
