Eliseo Mauala, 23, was arrested Monday in Pilot Point following his indictment by a Denton County grand jury on June 25. He faces two counts of collision involving death related to a December 2025 crash in Denton that resulted in the deaths of two cyclists.
The Denton County District Attorney’s Office issued warrants for Mauala, leading to his custody by Pilot Point police. He was subsequently booked into the Denton County jail.
Victims Andre Kocher, 60, and Scott Mages, 55, were struck from behind while training for an Ironman triathlon. Mauala was driving a pickup truck at the time. A Texas Department of Transportation report indicates he was speeding and not paying attention. Both men were thrown from their bicycles and transported to hospitals, where they died.
Investigators noted that Mauala drove away from the scene but returned before responders arrived. He was unlicensed and refused drug and alcohol testing.
