Jamarez D’Anthony McIntosh, 36, was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison on Wednesday. The sentence follows his guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a felon, a charge stemming from a 2023 traffic stop in Denton.
The incident began on Nov. 13, 2023, when Denton police officers stopped McIntosh’s vehicle near North Ruddell and Davis streets at approximately 9 p.m. According to a police report, officers checked the license plate and found the registration was expired and the vehicle lacked insurance. As officers approached the driver, McIntosh began arguing with them.
Dispatch subsequently informed the officers that McIntosh had an outstanding warrant from Little Elm related to a bond or protective order violation.
McIntosh fled on foot and entered a backyard on North Wood Street, according to the report. Although officers searched the area, they were unable to locate him at that time. During a subsequent search of his vehicle, officers discovered a 9mm pistol and drugs. Warrants for his arrest were obtained that same night.
Police later determined that McIntosh was staying in the 4000 block of Mesa Drive. On Nov. 21, 2023, officers arrested him on the outstanding warrant without incident.
