Denton is preparing for a busy weekend filled with Fourth of July festivities and regular community events. The Denton Noon Kiwanis Club will host its annual fireworks display at the North Texas Fairgrounds, located at 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. The evening begins with live music at 6 p.m., followed by the fireworks show at 7 p.m. While admission to the event is free, parking costs $10. Organizers are aiming to raise $10,000 to ensure the continuation of the fireworks tradition in future years.
Earlier in the day, the Fourth of July celebrations begin with the Yankee Yoodle Parade at The Square at 9 a.m. The parade features community groups from across the area. Following the parade, the Denton Senior Center at 509 N. Bell Ave. will hold a Stars & Stripes Celebration for individuals aged 50 and older from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The event includes complimentary hot dogs and drinks, along with live music performed by the Dixieland Ensemble.
Other community gatherings include a free cookout at Blue Mound United Methodist Church, located at 8421 N. I-35, starting at 4 p.m. The event offers hamburgers, hot dogs, and activities for all attendees. Additionally, Camp Gladiator Denton is organizing a free hour-long workout at the Golden Triangle Mall, 2201 S. I-35E, at 7 a.m. Participants will receive snacks, refreshments, and raffle giveaways.
Music lovers have several options for the evening. Glizzy Fest 6 takes place at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, 411 E. Sycamore St., at 8 p.m. The free festival features three stages of live music to close out the holiday. At The Bearded Monk, 122 E. McKinney St., Stardust Productionz will present a drag show at 7 p.m., with barbecue from Collie’s Kitchen and karaoke following the performance.
For those interested in film, Hemlock Fox at 116 N. Austin St. is hosting a Pool Party Series screening of the movie Jaws at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and include a kiddie pool, a picnic dinner, and a themed Jell-O shot.
