New Businesses Open, Others Close in Denton Area

Several new establishments have opened in Denton and Highland Village, while some long-time local spots are shutting down or changing hands.

The Clover Table Mahjong & Events held its grand opening on Saturday at 2300 Highland Village Road, Suite 405, in Highland Village. The venue provides lessons, open play, and community gatherings for players of all skill levels. In Denton, Bath & Body Works opened its third local store at Denton Crossing, located at 1800 S. Loop 288, Suite 214. Previous locations are situated at Rayzor Ranch Marketplace and inside Golden Triangle Mall.

Other recent openings include Strong Pilates at The Shops at Highland Village, which offers 45-minute classes at 1601 Village Parkway, Suite 140. Street Puff Smoke Shop is now operating at 206 Fort Worth Drive, taking over the former Dragon Smoke Shop space. California-based boba chain Teaspoon has arrived at Rayzor Ranch Town Center, 3400 N. Interstate 35, Suite 120, serving beverages with tapioca pearls and lychee jelly. Lukas Western Wear also opened a physical store at Golden Triangle Mall, replacing Francesca’s, after previously hosting weekend pop-ups near Antojitos El Rey.

Looking ahead, Target plans to open a 148,000-square-foot store in Little Elm at 26550 E. University Drive in July. Boot Barn is expected to open in Lewisville this November at 2325 S. Stemmons Freeway. A new McDonald’s is coming to Loop 288 near McKinney Street in Denton, though the opening date remains unclear. Renovation for Buckle at Denton Crossing is set to begin in September, and construction on a Nothing Bundt Cakes location in Argyle has started. A third Panda Express in Denton is scheduled for construction in June 2027.

Ownership changes include Harvest House, which reopened Friday under new owners Hannah and Matthew Burks after a sudden closure Monday. Florist Flowergarden118 is now owned by Paula Bates following the retirement of Cindy and Kirk Simmons. The facility formerly known as Dinkers has been bought by ATP Pickleball Club. Meanwhile, The Chestnut Tree Teahouse & Bistro will close on July 19 after 32 years, though its catering business will continue.
