Denton police officers and emergency responders discovered the body of a man lying on the ground near a 7-Eleven on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities stated there were no immediate indicators of criminal activity or physical trauma at the scene.
The incident began around 5:30 p.m. when an individual entered the store located at 101 S. Loop 288 and alerted staff to a person lying motionless outside. The business owner contacted emergency services, prompting a response from both police and paramedics.
Medics arrived at the east side of the building and confirmed the man was deceased. He was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as David Nicholas Cochran, 63. Investigators noted that Cochran was wearing a medical identification bracelet.
According to police reports, Cochran had been hospitalized approximately 24 hours prior. Medics had responded to the Denton Community Shelter on Tuesday for a call involving an unconscious individual, who was then transported to a hospital for treatment. Police spokesperson Lacy Fenn confirmed that Cochran was experiencing homelessness at the time of his death.
The medical examiner’s office listed both the cause and manner of death as pending as of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The investigation remains ongoing.
