A 27-year-old federal fugitive was arrested in Denton on Thursday afternoon after authorities say he committed a home invasion and stole a vehicle during an hours-long search. Denton Police Department officials confirmed that Arturo Lara was taken into custody around 3:10 p.m. on July 2.

The incident began earlier in the day when members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force attempted to execute a federal probation revocation warrant against Lara. The warrant was linked to the 700 block of Hercules Lane. According to police, Lara fled the scene in a vehicle and evaded initial capture efforts.

Around 9:15 a.m., a 911 caller reported seeing a man in a backyard located in the 1900 block of Williamsburg Row. Responding officers discovered the vehicle Lara had allegedly used to escape earlier that morning. Law enforcement and a K9 unit conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

The situation escalated around 11:20 a.m. when police received a report of a home invasion in the 2000 block of Mistywood Lane. Investigators stated that a man matching Lara's description forced entry into a woman's residence. The suspect allegedly pushed the woman, threatened her with a knife, and took her vehicle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Officers subsequently located the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of East Windsor Drive. Law enforcement established a perimeter around the area, leading to Lara's apprehension without further incident. He was arrested on the outstanding federal warrant.

Lara is scheduled to be booked into the Denton County Jail. Police indicated that additional charges related to the alleged home invasion and vehicle theft are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
