Kirk’s homer helps Blue Jays beat Astros 3-1 at Daikin Park

Kirk supplied the game’s only home run, and the Toronto Blue Jays used that early swing to beat the Houston Astros 3-1 on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston.

Kirk opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a homer to left center that traveled 373 feet. The drive gave Toronto a 1-0 lead and accounted for the only run of the inning.

The Blue Jays remained in front the rest of the way. Houston finished with one run, while Toronto scored three times and did not add a run after the fourth inning.

Blue Jays build the lead

Toronto stretched the margin in the top of the fourth. Sánchez singled to left, and Okamoto scored on the play after a throwing error by left fielder Trammell. Sánchez was safe at second on the error, and Springer was safe at third, leaving the Blue Jays ahead 2-0.

Clement followed with a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Springer for a 3-0 Toronto lead. That was the Blue Jays’ final run of the game.

Houston answered in the bottom of the sixth. Peña singled to center, scoring Diaz, with Peña moving to second and Smith to third. The hit cut Toronto’s lead to 3-1, but the Astros did not score again.

Bieber earns the win

Shane Bieber earned the win for Toronto, moving to 3-2. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits, one earned run and two walks with six strikeouts.

Braydon Fisher was credited with his 10th hold after 1.0 inning with one hit, no earned runs, two walks and no strikeouts. Brendon Little added 1.1 innings with no hits, no earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts for his first hold. Tyler Rogers recorded his third save with 1.0 inning, allowing no hits, no earned runs and no walks with no strikeouts.

For Houston, Cristian Javier took the loss and fell to 1-2. He allowed seven hits, three earned runs and no walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Tatsuya Imai pitched 3.0 innings with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts.

Records

The announced attendance was 22,789. Houston fell to 58-56 with the loss, while Toronto improved to 53-60 with the win.
