Trammell’s three-run homer sends Astros past Blue Jays 7-2

Trammell breaks it open

Trammell delivered the swing that separated Houston from Toronto in the Astros’ 7-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston. His 388-foot homer to right in the bottom of the fifth drove in Walker and Altuve and turned a one-run lead into a 6-2 cushion.

The home run was the only one of the game, and it capped a four-run inning for Houston after Toronto had tied the score in the top half.

Houston answers after Toronto ties it

Houston first scored in the bottom of the fourth. Diaz singled to left to bring in Altuve and move Trammell to second. Smith followed with a single to left, and Trammell scored on an error as Smith reached second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez and Diaz reached third.

Toronto responded in the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, then scored on a Wesneski wild pitch to make it 2-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop that scored Alvarez and moved Walker to second.

Trammell followed with his three-run homer. Houston added its final run in the seventh when Altuve singled to center and Walker scored.

Wesneski takes the win

Hayden Wesneski was credited with the win for Houston, improving to 2-0. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out four. Wesneski also was charged with the wild pitch that brought in Toronto’s second run.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one hit with no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Toronto pitching lines and records

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in three innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. Trey Yesavage pitched two hitless innings with one walk.

Braydon Fisher pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Brendon Little allowed two hits and one earned run in one inning, and Mason Fluharty pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs and one walk.

The announced attendance was 30,450. The Astros are 59-56, and the Blue Jays are 53-61.
