Relief Duo Secures Victory
The Houston Astros relied on their late-inning arms to secure a 5-4 win against the Texas Rangers on Saturday at Daikin Park. With the game tied or within reach, relievers Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader combined to shut the door on the Rangers' offense, allowing Houston to improve its record to 57-55.
Steven Okert earned the win, improving to 5-1, while Abreu and Hader each recorded a save, bringing their totals to 7 and 15, respectively.
Offensive Surge in the Fourth
The game remained tight through the early innings before a flurry of activity in the fourth inning shifted the momentum. The Rangers had taken a 3-1 lead after Cole Winn’s home run in the third. However, the Astros answered with a series of scoring plays that turned the tide.
Osuna singled to right to bring Carter home, making it 3-2. Diaz then hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Osuna and score Duran, tying the game at 3-3. Walker reached on an infield single to put Peña on base, and Alvarez scored on a wild pitch by Winn, giving Houston a 4-3 lead.
Although Alvarez scored again on a subsequent wild pitch, the Rangers challenged the call, which was upheld, leaving the score at 5-3 in favor of Houston after the inning.
Pitching Struggles and Relief
Texas Rangers starter Jacob deGrom had a difficult outing, taking the loss to drop his record to 7-7. He pitched 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits, five earned runs, and five walks while striking out three. The Rangers’ bullpen, including Cole Winn, Tyler Alexander, Peyton Gray, and Chase Silseth, managed to keep the game close, with none of the relievers allowing an earned run.
Winn pitched 0.2 hitless innings, while Alexander and Gray each threw scoreless frames, striking out one batter apiece. Silseth added 1.0 inning with two strikeouts.
For Houston, Ronel Blanco started and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, and two walks, while striking out four. Bennett Sousa and Enyel De Los Santos provided brief relief, with De Los Santos taking the hold. Okert entered in a critical situation and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters to secure the win.
Abreu followed with a perfect 1.0 inning, striking out one, before Hader closed out the game with another scoreless frame and one strikeout.

The final score stood at 5-4 in favor of the Astros. The game drew an attendance of 38,461 fans to Daikin Park. With the victory, the Astros improved to 57-55, while the Rangers fell to 55-56. The Rangers’ only other home run came from Langford in the third inning, which tied the game at 1-1 before Houston’s offensive explosion.
