Astros Edge Angels in Four-Run Fourth
The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Thursday at Daikin Park. The contest featured a strong pitching performance from Houston reliever Ethan Pecko, who fanned four batters in his Major League debut. Pecko pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking three.
He was followed by Bennett Sousa, who secured the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out one. The Astros bullpen provided significant support, with AJ Blubaugh, Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu, and closer Josh Hader all pitching scoreless frames to preserve the lead. Hader recorded the save in his 18th save of the season.
Vázquez Powers Offense
The Angels took an early lead in the third inning. Carlos Vázquez homered to left field, driving the ball 383 feet. This was Vázquez's seventh home run of the season.
The Angels had taken the lead 1-0, but the Astros responded quickly in the fourth inning. Yordan Alvarez scored on a double by Jose Altuve, tying the game at 2-2. The momentum shifted back to Houston when a sacrifice fly by Smith allowed Paredes to score, giving the Astros a 3-2 lead.
This run proved to be the difference in the tight contest.
