Safran Electrical & Power has officially opened a new electrical wiring manufacturing plant in Chihuahua, Mexico. The inauguration of this facility marks a significant expansion for the company’s operations in the region, establishing the site as the largest aerospace electrical wiring facility globally.
The new plant spans 10,600 square meters and is scheduled to begin operations in November 2026. Its launch is designed to support the production ramp-up for current aerospace programs and prepare for the next generation of single-aisle aircraft. The facility will also contribute to new defense contracts and aim to strengthen the company’s presence in advanced air mobility markets. Safran projects that the new site will generate more than 800 jobs.
This opening represents the fifth Safran Electrical & Power wiring factory in Chihuahua. The company’s campus in the city now covers a total area exceeding 71,000 square meters and will employ 5,300 people. The Chihuahua operations support major aerospace programs for several global manufacturers, including Airbus, ATR, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Lockheed Martin, and Sikorsky. The site also supports space and advanced air mobility initiatives for Blue Origin and Wisk.
Bruno Bellanger, CEO of Safran Electrical & Power, described Chihuahua as a cornerstone of the company’s global network and a strategic pillar for operational excellence and innovation. He noted that the new site aligns with the company’s ambition in aircraft electrical systems and its goal of contributing to more sustainable aviation. The inauguration coincides with Safran’s 35th anniversary of presence in Mexico.
Safran cited the competitiveness of its Chihuahua activities as stemming from lean manufacturing practices, industrial excellence, and digital continuity. The company highlighted the availability of a skilled workforce, a network of local suppliers, and a robust environment for technical training as key advantages of the location.
