DENTON, Texas — The Argyle ISD community is mourning the loss of Cody Vanderford, a championship-winning boys golf coach and longtime educator who died Monday following a medical emergency. He was 61.
Vanderford led the Argyle High School boys golf team to consecutive state championships in 2021 and 2022. He also served as a physical education teacher at Argyle South Elementary School.
"With deep sadness, we share the unexpected passing of a beloved member of the Argyle ISD family," the district said in a message to the community.
Argyle ISD confirmed Vanderford's death on Tuesday. Colleagues and students described him as a dedicated educator who brought energy and positivity to both his coaching and classroom instruction.
Vanderford's state championship teams in 2021 and 2022 marked the first time Argyle High School won back-to-back state titles in boys golf, cementing his legacy as one of the most successful coaches in the program's history.
