As the Texas Longhorns gear up for the 2026 football season, the left guard position is under scrutiny by head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Laurence Seymore, a transfer from Western Kentucky, is currently the frontrunner, having been part of the first-team offensive line during the team's initial fall scrimmage.
In addition to Seymore, the Longhorns are considering several other candidates for the role. Dylan Sikorski, who made the move from Oregon State and started six games at left guard last year, is also in the mix. Jaydon Chatman is another contender, while Cole Hutson brings valuable depth with over 1,000 career offensive snaps logged at Texas.
The coaching staff is not feeling pressured to finalize their choice for the left guard position ahead of the season opener, allowing them to continue evaluating the candidates. Sarkisian noted that effective offensive line play hinges on more than individual talent; communication and chemistry are essential, particularly when facing opponents.
Sarkisian has stressed the importance of continuity on the offensive line to safeguard quarterback Arch Manning. He observed that the first-team offensive line showed good cohesion during the scrimmage, while also experimenting with various lineups. If Seymore secures the starting role, it could provide the Longhorns with stability.
However, should the run game or pass protection reveal a need for a different skill set, the team has strong alternatives available, offering them the flexibility to adjust their strategy as necessary as they pursue championship success.
