Von Miller, originally from DeSoto and a former Texas A&M player, has signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million through performance incentives. This signing is significant for Miller, who is eager to play for his hometown team.
At 37, Miller proved his effectiveness last season by recording nine sacks. His impressive career includes two Super Bowl titles, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, enhancing the Cowboys' outside linebacker (OLB) depth. The team is expected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with two more on the practice squad.
The anticipated starters for the OLB position are Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku, with Miller and Malachi Lawrence expected to serve as primary backups. James Houston is likely to make the roster as the fifth OLB, thanks to his contributions last season, particularly on special teams.
The competition for the final OLB spot remains between Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, with Liufau potentially having an advantage due to his versatility and special teams performance last year. The predicted final OLB depth chart includes Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Malachi Lawrence, Von Miller, James Houston, and Marist Liufau. Further roster decisions are yet to be clarified.
