Doug McNamee, Baylor's new athletic director, has not set a specific win total for head coach Dave Aranda to achieve in order to keep his job past the 2026 season. Instead, McNamee highlighted the necessity of restoring momentum and building broader support for the football program.

In comments relayed by CBS Sports college football writer Shehan Jeyarajah, McNamee expressed, "It’s not about the numbers. It’s the momentum; it’s the feel, and it’s the vibe around the program."

This statement clarifies expectations for Aranda as he approaches his seventh season at Baylor, emphasizing the need for a competitive environment in the Big 12 and adaptation to the changing landscape of name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

McNamee also called for greater commitment from supporters, urging them to engage with the program through attendance and financial contributions to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He remarked, "We need greater commitment and investment from our constituency."

Aranda's record at Baylor is currently 36-37, following a successful 2021 season but a challenging stretch with a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the last four years. As Baylor gears up for the season opener against Auburn on September 5, McNamee's remarks indicate that the future of Aranda's role will hinge on both team performance and the overall support for the football program.
