Jared Nuness, previously an assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, has been sanctioned by the NCAA for placing around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various sports. This action follows an investigation initiated by a third-party sports wagering monitoring system that identified Nuness in November 2025.
Baylor University conducted an internal review and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a joint investigation. In February 2026, Nuness admitted to the NCAA that he had violated its rules by wagering on professional sports through two online sportsbooks.
He also allowed his minor son to access these betting accounts, resulting in the son placing three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games totaling $170.
The NCAA clarified that none of Nuness's bets involved Baylor University or its student-athletes. He accepted full responsibility for his actions, and the case was classified as a Level II-Standard violation. Baylor Athletics confirmed its cooperation with the NCAA during the investigation, emphasizing ongoing compliance education within the department.
Nuness, who left Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, is facing a two-year show-cause order, requiring him to complete sports betting education and provide similar training to colleagues. He also faces a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, equating to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand.
