As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for their upcoming preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the battle for the backup quarterback position has become more pronounced. With Dak Prescott and many starters not participating, Sam Howell and Joe Milton are competing for the QB2 spot. Howell started the first exhibition game against Seattle, while Milton played in the second half.
Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer remarked that Howell's practice consistency earned him the starting nod, and Milton performed well during his playing time.
Concerns have been raised about right tackle Terence Steele, who may be a liability on the starting offensive line. Coach Schottenheimer pointed out that Steele needs to show more consistency following his performance against the Los Angeles Rams. Offensive coordinator Clayton Adams stressed the necessity of finding ways to assist Steele as he approaches his seventh season in the league.
In the running back category, Jaydon Blue, a former University of Texas player, is currently dealing with a shoulder injury, which casts doubt on his availability for the next game. Blue had been in a competition for the backup role behind Javonte Williams alongside Phil Mafah and Malik Davis but faced challenges in the first preseason game.
Additionally, safety Jalen Thompson recently drew attention after an incident during joint practices with the New Orleans Saints, where he was body slammed by a Saints player. As a starter, Thompson is not expected to play in the preseason games, making this incident a unique chance for him to interact with players from another team.
