Representatives from the nonprofit Giving Grace conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 15 for the Love First Campus in Denton. The event marked the start of construction for a facility located at 5000 E. McKinney St.

The project involves a $14.6 million investment for the Cornerstone Phase. According to a news release, the new site will combine an emergency family shelter with a Life Skills Center. The facility is designed to offer housing, childcare, life skills training, and various supportive services within a single location.

Giving Grace serves residents in Denton County who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing their housing. The organization reported that family homelessness in the county increased by 93% in recent years. During the previous year, the group provided emergency shelter to more than 300 families.

Dawn Shapley, the chief executive officer of Giving Grace, stated that the organization aims to help families achieve safety and dignity. She credited community partners and local government officials, including the County Judge and Commissioners Court, for their support in addressing homelessness in the area.

Further details regarding the construction timeline or specific operational start dates for the new campus were not provided in the available information.
