The City of Denton has released a guide outlining various ways residents can support local organizations through volunteering and donations during the holiday season. The initiative highlights opportunities for individuals to contribute time or resources to groups that serve the Denton community.

Several organizations are currently accepting volunteers. Our Daily Bread is looking for regular volunteers and can be contacted via email for group opportunities. The Salvation Army also lists individual volunteer openings on its website. Cumberland Youth and Family Services needs help with gift wrapping, stocking stuffing, and assisting at its Christmas Store, which runs from December 15 through December 23.

Other groups seeking assistance include Paisley Street Preschool, which invites involvement through United Way’s Reading Volunteers or the Foster Grandparent Program, as well as the Denton Animal Shelter. CASA of Denton County is hosting information sessions on January 6 and 7 for those interested in becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates, with training scheduled to begin on January 9. Refuge For Women is recruiting volunteers for its upcoming Spring Gala and for roles within its Safe House, including transportation and education teams.

For those preferring to make donations, Our Daily Bread accepts seasonal clothing, hygiene products, and household items at its location on TX-288 N Loop. Furniture donations require pre-approval and a call to ensure storage space is available. The city’s Powerful Connections program allows residents to gift utility payments to neighbors in need. Denton County MHMR’s Holiday Helping Hands is also accepting contributions for its food pantry and clothing closet.

Toys For Tots is collecting new, unwrapped toys through Friday, December 12. Drop-off locations include multiple Denton Fire Stations, the Denton Police Department, Denton City Hall, the Discover Denton Visitor Center, and the City of Denton Development Services office. Additional donation opportunities exist for the Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas, Cumberland Youth and Family Services, Pedi Place, and Communities In Schools, which is seeking shelf-stable food items for its Nutrition Hubs.
