Denton residents have numerous options for cold desserts this summer, ranging from traditional ice cream parlors to specialized shaved ice vendors. These establishments are spread across the city, including locations near the University of North Texas, downtown, and the Denton Square.
In the Fry Street area near UNT, Taiyaki Sweets operates at 1206 W. Hickory St. The shop specializes in taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped pastry, and also serves boba drinks and ice cream. It typically opens at 2 p.m. and closes at midnight. Nearby at 1302 W. Hickory St., Ibaco offers gelato, boba, and falooda, a cold Indian dessert containing vermicelli noodles and sweet rose syrup.
Ibaco also functions as a deli, serving sandwiches and shawarma wraps.
Wild West Shave Ice began as a food truck in 2021 before opening a kiosk at 1640 W. University Drive in 2024. Customers can combine up to three flavors or select from pre-made "cowboy combos." Zach’s Shaved Ice, located at 625 E. Sherman Drive, focuses on New Orleans-style shaved ice, which features a fine ice grain and flavored syrup for a slushy-like consistency.
Downtown Denton features Blind Man’s Corner at 108 E. Oak St., which opened in late May. This walk-up eatery includes Trucky’s Frozen Treats, offering dairy and nondairy options like ice cream sandwiches and paletas. Prices for some items start at $1.50.
On the Square, Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream uses a nearly 100-year-old machine to prepare its flavors. It has two locations: one on the Square and another at 2900 Wind River Lane, Suite 148, near Unicorn Lake.
