Eliseo Mauala, 23, was taken into custody by Pilot Point police on Monday following his indictment by a Denton County grand jury on June 25. He faces two counts of collision involving death linked to a December 2025 crash in Denton that resulted in the deaths of two cyclists.

According to a Texas Department of Transportation report, Mauala was operating a pickup truck at excessive speed and failed to pay attention while driving. He struck Andre Kocher, 60, and Scott Mages, 55, from behind as they were training for an Ironman triathlon. Both men were thrown from their bicycles and later died at area hospitals.

Investigators noted that Mauala drove away from the scene before returning. He was unlicensed and refused drug and alcohol testing. Mauala has been booked into the Denton County jail.
