Standout Performers
CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. were the offensive catalysts for the Washington Nationals, each hitting their 20th home run of the season to lead the team to an 8-2 victory over the Houston Astros. The power surge came against Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti, who struggled to contain the Nationals' bats throughout his outing. On the mound, Foster Griffin provided a stark contrast, delivering a dominant performance that kept the Astros off balance for the majority of the game.
Game Progression
The Nationals took control in the third inning. Abrams drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field, putting Washington ahead 1-0. Later in the frame, Lile doubled to left, allowing García Jr. to score and extend the lead to 2-0.
The inning ended without further scoring for Houston, but the momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth. García Jr. launched a 417-foot home run to right center, a three-run blast that widened the gap to 5-0 and included runs from Ruiz and Wood. The Nationals continued to pile on runs in the fifth inning. After Matthews singled to center to score Diaz, making it 5-1, Abrams followed with a 415-foot home run to right center. The inning exploded further as Lile scored on a groundout by Tena, and Crews crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Ruiz, pushing the score to 8-1.
Houston managed to get on the board in the eighth inning. Allen reached on an infield single, and Dezenzo scored on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams, making the final score 8-2. The Astros were unable to add any further runs against the Nationals' bullpen.
