Denton is one of the North Texas cities on the filming map for "Frisco King," the new Paramount+ crime drama starring Samuel L. Jackson.

The series is a spinoff of "Tulsa King," created and written by Taylor Sheridan. Jackson stars as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a veteran hitman he first played in the final episodes of "Tulsa King" season three opposite Sylvester Stallone. The eight-episode first season follows the character as he sets out to build his own criminal enterprise. The show was originally titled "NOLA King" and set in New Orleans before Paramount+ moved it to North Texas and renamed it for Frisco.

Production began in Fort Worth in late March and has since filmed at locations including Denton, Plano, Dallas, Keller, Southlake and Frisco, with the schedule running through July. Legacy Casting, a Texas casting company, has posted a series of calls for local background actors across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with listed pay generally ranging from about $110 to $350 a day depending on the role.

The cast also includes Kai Caster, Asa Germann, Lilah Pate and Savanna Gann. Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date.

Denton sits about 20 miles west of Frisco, the city that gives the series its name and setting.
