Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth is undertaking a major vertical expansion of the Justin Tower to significantly increase its capacity for women’s and infants’ services. The Jane & John Justin Foundation has provided a naming gift for the project, which builds upon the foundation’s original 2019 contribution that established the tower.

Construction plans involve adding four new stories to the existing structure. Floors 11 and 12 will house the relocated Women’s Services center, which will include labor and delivery suites, a nursery, dedicated operating rooms, and rooms for antepartum, postpartum, and gynecology care. Floors 9 and 10 will remain as shell space for future use.

The expanded facility will be named the Jane and John Justin Center for Women & Infants.

The project also includes moving the Obstetric Emergency Department into the tower with a dedicated entrance and expanding the neonatal intensive care unit. Additionally, two previously unfinished floors will be completed to add 71 patient rooms. Josh Floren, chief operating officer of Texas Health’s Hospital Channel, stated that the expansion aims to keep critical care within the community and support expectant mothers and newborns.

The vertical expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2029, during which time Justin Tower will remain operational. In a separate phase, construction is already underway to finish the shell space on the fourth and fifth floors.

These floors will add another 71 patient rooms and house a new Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit for patients recovering from injuries or surgeries who do not require intensive care but are not stable for general units. Those floors are expected to open in 2026.

Justin Tower opened in April 2022, adding 144 patient beds and increasing surgical capacity by nearly 30 percent. The facility features dedicated neurosurgery and orthopedics operating suites and space for modern robotic and imaging technology. Texas Health Fort Worth, which began as a small community hospital in 1930, has grown alongside the city, which recently surpassed 1 million residents.

Laura McWhorter, president of the Texas Health Resources Foundation, noted that the name Justin Tower represents quality, service, and innovation. She expressed honor in upholding the legacy of Jane and John Justin through this expansion.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital employs about 1,100 people in Denton, according to local government records.
